Pre-Apprenticeship Program

 

A win-win solution In the workplace!

 

Community Action Partnership of Riverside County (CAP Riverside) administers a workplace-mentoring program that matches high school youth with small businesses in their communities. Students learn new marketable job skills and receive a stipend for a maximum of 520 hours at the prevailing minimum wage.
 
Work performance is evaluated by the employer as well as CAP Riverside staff via periodic site visits and review of monthly fiscal and program reports
 

Program Requirements  

 

Youth Must Be:

· Currently enrolled in high school. (grades 11/12)
· Able to work in a business environment for a maximum of 520 hours.
· Approved through school job placement program counselor.
· Open a savings account and agree to save a minimum of $100 during the 520 hours of work; savings are matched with $100
from the employer and $100 from CAP Riverside upon successful completion of the program.
· Family must meet Poverty Guidelines.
 

Each Business Must:

   

· Employ 10 workers or less.
· Pre Apprenticeship Pic 2Provide a safe work environment.
· Develop a training plan for the youth.
· Provide job mentoring to high school youth for a maximum of 520 hours.
· Provide $100 match for youth savings incentive.
· Provide workers compensation coverage for each youth participant.
· Undergo finger printing and background check.
· Participate in program orientation before placement of a youth.
· Provide work-related evaluation of youth.
· Reimbursed monthly for youth stipend.

 

Program Goals

• Continue with formal or technical education after high school.

• Become role model for other youth.

 

For Business:

• Invest in youth development

• Exposed to new learning experiences as a mentor.

• Acquire new management skills.

• Recognized for community participation.

• Become role model for other small businesses in the community.

• Provide workers compensation coverage for each youth participant.
