Dear Community Action Academy Partners and Attendees,

In his budget for fiscal year 2012, President Obama cut Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) by 50% and proposed doing away with the state formula based funding which guarantees equitable funding for Community Action programs. Community Action Partnership of Riverside County (CAP Riverside) uses CSBG funds to provide the critical support for many programs and services that provide economic opportunities for the poor in Riverside County. The impact that this type of reduction in funding will have on low-income families is devastating. Locally low-income families would face shrinking access to critical programs such as those outlined on the attached document -Impact of CSBG and Cuts and Loss of CAA Status.

COMMUNITY ACTION PLAN 2012-2013

CAP Riverside has conducted a county-wide needs assessment, distributing 7,500 surveys to low-income Riverside County residents regarding the situation of poverty in Riverside County. This survey formed the basis of the 2012-2013 Community Action Plan, which is required by law to be submitted every two years. This document describes how CAP Riverside will address these needs over the next two years.

The plan was approved by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, June 7 and has been submitted to the State. The entire Community Action Plan may be accessed at the link below:
